Hautapu Haulage is a log cartage company and is a joint venture between Hautapu Pine and Kevin O'Brien, the manager of Hautapu Haulage.
Trucks have been a part of the Hautapu Pine business since the beginning, bringing logs to the mill for processing. The first truck was a petrol TK Bedford, followed some years later by a Dodge in 1981. The Dodge had a jinker pole trailer and could cart 8 tonne of logs!
Kevin O'Brien joined the company in 1984 and became its first full-time truck driver.
By 2004, the company owned two large truck and trailer units that carted logs to the mill as well as working for other companies.
In 2005 Trevor Benson decided to set the trucks up as a separate company and created the joint venture between Hautapu Pine and Kevin O'Brien.
Today Hautapu Haulage owns six truck and trailer units and continues to cart all the logs into Hautapu Pine. Hautapu Haulage also has cartage contracts with NZ Forest Managers in Turangi and carts for other forestry companies in the lower North Island.
