Mill

At Hautapu Pine, our commitment to excellence is at the core of everything we do. From log selection to rigorous staff training, quality checking, and innovative plant design, we take pride in producing
high-quality roundwood products and house piles.

Our post-production process has evolved significantly over the past 40 years, transitioning from the early days of hand-peeled posts to our current highly efficient, mechanised mill equipped with two peelers.

Hautapu Pine holds the distinction of being the first roundwood mill in NZ to introduce remote operation for a post peeler. Positioned in an elevated cabin directly in front of the peeler, our operations benefit from an unobstructed view of the entire length of the post, allowing for continuous assessment during the peeling process. The finished products move on to a slowly rotating circular table, affording our graders the time to thoroughly assess each post for any deformities. These features in our production process contribute to the consistent manufacture of accurately graded, high-quality posts.

In addition to our fence posts, Hautapu Pine proudly produces a substantial volume of wooden poles, ranging from 1.8m to 15m in length. Each pole undergoes a thorough assessment for defects and is carefully graded for size. We produce both normal category and high category construction poles. All high category poles are tested on our strength tester in accordance with NZS 3605.

Hautapu Pine also has a house pile mill and with this efficient operation we produce anchor piles ranging in length from 0.45m to 3.6m.

In addition to the production site in Taihape, the company has a distribution yard in Orini, north-east of Hamilton. This yard enables us to provide fast, efficient service to customers in the Waikato and Auckland regions.
