Haulage

Trucks have been a part of the Hautapu Pine business since the beginning, bringing logs to the mill for processing.  The first truck was a petrol TK Bedford, followed some years later by a Dodge in 1981.  The Dodge had a jinker pole trailer and a full load was a mere 8 tonne of logs!

By 2004, the company owned two large truck and trailer units that carted logs to the mill as well as undertaking cartage for other companies.

In 2005 Trevor Benson decided to establish a separate company, Hautapu Haulage, to own the trucks. Hautapu Haulage is a joint venture between Hautapu Pine and Kevin O’Brien, the company’s first
full-time truck driver who joined the company in 1984.

Today Hautapu Haulage owns 21 truck and trailer units and continues to cart all the logs into Hautapu Pine.  Hautapu Haulage also has cartage contracts with several other forest management companies and cartage contractors
